Maryen is doing a 45 minute solo performance "The Stories Of Femina Australis" each day (15,16,17 March) and a Workshop "Creating Story Songs" on the 15 March. "The Stories Of Femina Australis" This one woman show brings the stories of some of Australia’s most remarkable, historically significant women to life through storytelling, song and imagery. Pioneers of our current society, both immigrant and indigenous, featured in Femina Australis include Oodgeroo Noonuccal (better known as the poet Kath Walker), Granny Lum Loy and Mary Reibey.
Workshop - "Creating Story Songs" Percussion, vocal rapping, writing and singing a story combine in this creative workshop with Femina Australis singer/songwriter Maryen Cairns. Coming from the tradition of folk stories, the workshop group will create an entirely new work based on an actual event or person, and perform it together.
